DIPLOMA IN PACKAGING TECHNOLOGY

The Diploma in Packaging Technology is internationally recognised as the premier qualification for packaging professionals, acknowledging the high standards of knowledge and skill required in a very large, diverse and important industry.

The Diploma provides learners with a broad knowledge of the principles, material, processes and other elements of packaging production and use. Those achieving the Diploma will be able to apply this knowledge to solving problems and making decisions associated with the technical and aesthetic performance, costs, safety and legality of packaging materials and packed products.

There are two broad target groups:
  1. People currently employed in parts of the packaging industry who want to broaden their knowledge and understanding and take on greater levels of responsibility.

  2. People who are currently employed in those industries in capacities which require a detailed knowledge of packaging and packaging operations.
Diploma students are from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines, and are typically experienced practitioners or managers in technical, sales/ marketing, QA, purchasing, engineering or design.

Completion of the Diploma in Packaging Technology demonstrates a student’s commitment to their career and to the industry. Students who successfully complete the Diploma are equipping themselves for senior positions within the packaging industry. Networking opportunities abound, providing the chance to draw on the experience and knowledge of others.

The Diploma in Packaging Technology is divided into five units. Assessment for Units 1 to 4 is by examination and for Unit 5 by a dissertation.

“I personally feel the Diploma course was very rewarding and gave me excellent networking opportunities. The plant visits and lectures were well organised, presented with real professionalism and efficiency. Heinz as a company have found the course to be very rewarding and plan on sending further employees to attend. Participation is encouraged at all stages, which is hugely beneficial to all students due to individual expertise”.
John Ryan, Purchasing Manager, Heinz
